FITC-Alex-Prager-2.1

A self-taught art photographer and
filmmaker. ALEX had always harbored a
fear of facing crowds. Standing in front
of large groups gave her a sense of being
“completely out of control.”

She decided to turn this phobia into a
work of art.

FACE IN THE CROWD is an exhibition in still and motion
picture photography that explores the physical
and emotional phenomena of human crowds.

Alex needed a magnetic main character,
someone “vulnerable, beautiful, and
familiar, someone we’d want to follow
through these crowds.”

We cast and booked ELIZABETH BANKS.

Alex conceived FACE IN THE
CROWD as a fluid juxtaposition of
both still and moving images.

In order to achieve the desired
effect, we planned the still
photography and the film to be
shot simultaneously.

While Alex directed the
still photography and the
film, Jeff Vespa directed
the behind-the-scenes
documentary.

The final element involved editing the film to play
synchronously one three separate screens each with its own
visual tale. This approach would immerse the audience in
three walls of crowding imagery during the exhibition.

Verge Studios produced all
3 phases of production on
FACE IN THE CROWD, both
still and motion picture
photography, and on its
partnered documentary
video, including an original
score with Ultraísta.
